The Tableau Conference is an annual event that brings together data enthusiasts from around the world to share knowledge and insights about data analytics. The conference is often held in Las Vegas, including 2023. Not everyone has the opportunity to just travel to America. Fortunately, it is also possible to attend the conference virtually from your own workplace. In this blog, we discuss some tips on how to get the most out of attending the Tableau Conference online, and how to follow the sessions to still be there.

Preparing for the Conference

Before the conference begins, take some time to review the conference schedule and find the sessions that interest you most. To do this, first register (for free) for Salesforce+. This is where both live sessions and sessions are broadcast on-demand. Plan your schedule in advance, including any breaks you may need during the day. Make sure you have the necessary equipment, such as a reliable Internet connection and a computer with a webcam, to fully participate in the conference. And have a nice cup of coffee or tea at your desk so you don't have to leave during the sessions.

Participating in Sessions

During the conference, be sure to attend as many sessions live as possible. In our experience, it is better to watch sessions live. Intending to watch them back later often doesn't get off the ground. And of course you want to be there when new big announcements are made. Be sure to actively listen, take notes and save any material that may be useful later. If you really can't attend a session, check to see if the recording is available after the conference ends. On the Tableau Conference page, halfway down the page you'll see the Schedule and On Demand buttons on the left side of the screen. Here you can view the live sessions, and the on-demand sessions. Schedule them easily by adding them to your calendar.

Connect with Attendees

One of the benefits of attending the Tableau Conference is networking with like-minded data enthusiasts. To get the most out of the online experience, join the Tableau Community forums and connect with other attendees. Also follow on Twitter what others think of the sessions via the hashtag #data23, #TC23 and #DataFam. What can also help is to watch with colleagues. For example, watch the Keynote together on a big screen.

Staying Involved After the Conference

After the conference, don't let the knowledge you gained go to waste. Follow up on any contacts you made during the conference and stay involved in the Tableau Community. Join Tableau User Groups such as the NLTUG and participate in local meetings to continue learning and growing in your field. Stay active on social media and share your experiences with others. Of course, we at The Information Lab will also share blogs with our findings.

In short, even if you can't attend live in Vegas, you don't have to miss this great event!
